Remenham Challenge 2013

After at least two outings, something that can be almost construed as cheating in club rowing, a men’s 8 made up of 8 of the Senior Squad captured the title at the Remenham Head for the first time in a decade. Going off first, they pulled steadily away from LRC to post a time over 20 seconds faster than Molesey’s club 8.

Another 8 finished just over a second behind Molesey, showing that the recent hard training has paid off and the win at the Fours Head was no flash in the pan. Despite much grumbling about the waves after Harrods all survived in one piece. The 3rd and 4th crews did not have such a good day but raced hard and highlighted plenty of areas for improvement and that more continuity in crews is needed if the training is to be maximised.

The novice men had a good victory in their class, always pleasing after just a few weeks in the sport!

All told, Thames crews won five out of seven events, showing good strength in depth. Thames won the Elite Men’s and Women’s pennants, Women’s Intermediate Eight, Men’s Masters A, C & E Eights and Men’s Novice Eight. Here are the full results:
